Project Information  

Columbus Magnet Elementary School, constructed in 1938 with an addition in 1980 is a two story building with partial basement that serves approximately 353 pupils in Kindergarten to grade 5. The school is home to the Board of Education’s “HOT” (Higher Order Thinking) intradistrict magnet program. Enrollment is projected to be stable over the next eight years however Columbus Magnet Elementary School is an aged building and in need of renovation.

Some work, such as roof replacement and selected toilet room upgrades, has been completed over the past few years however considerable improvements are needed to building shell, interior and systems. These additional improvements and alterations include, but are not limited to, the building envelope (masonry restoration and repair, exterior doors and louvers, etc.); building interior (reconfiguration of administration areas, classrooms and certain building functions, etc.); building infrastructure (installation of fire sprinkler system, repair and replacement of emergency lighting, fire alarm, security systems, etc.); building systems (replacement of boilers, upgraded ventilation, and temperature control systems, etc.); code compliance (toilet room accessibility, door hardware and ADA compliant elevator, etc.); and hazardous materials abatement (primarily floor tile).

The preliminary construction cost budget for the Columbus Magnet Elementary School alterations is approximately $3.1 million, with a total project budget of $3.75 million including all soft costs and project contingencies.
