Nathaniel Ely Child Care Center

The renovation project at the Nathaniel Ely Child Care Center ($4.1M total project budget) is ready to begin its design phase, now that it has received authorization of funding through the Connecticut Health and Education Facility Authority (CHEFA).

Na
thaniel Ely Child Care Center is located at 11 Ingalls Avenue, owned by the City of Norwalk, and leased to Norwalk Economic Opportunity Now (NEON), Inc. for use as a licensed childcare center. The main building is approximately 38,049 gross sq. ft., and was originally constructed in 1956. The City has upgraded or replaced certain original building elements such as the life safety systems, heating and air conditioning systems, lighting, flooring and ceiling tiles over recent years, but an additional significant improvement of the space is required to accommodate its future program needs.

The renovation project is planned to include:

  • Demolition and replacement of portable classrooms with approximately 6,100 sq. ft. permanent addition
  • Roof Replacement
  • Window Replacement
  • New Heating Control System
  • General Accessibility/Code Upgrades to toilet rooms, kitchen and new elevator
  • Site/Playground improvements
  • Improved security control
